Elo TouchSystems Offers New Flat-Panel Touchscreen For Fujitsu 21- Inch Gas Plasma Color Monitor

Elo TouchSystems, the leader in touch technology, announces the availability of a new flat-panel IntelliTouch Ultra™ touchscreen designed for use with Fujitsu’s 21-inch gas plasma color monitor. The IntelliTouch/Fujitsu combination offers an easy way to build touch into a wide variety of systems, ranging from public use applications such as kiosk, multimedia, and public access to any type of control room installation, including those at processing plants and medical facilities.
“At 21 inches, Fujitsu currently offers the largest flat-panel color monitor available,” said Michael Lewis, Elo’s product manager for the new touchscreen. “By building a touchscreen to enhance the Fujitsu monitor, we place a powerful tool in the hands of OEMs, VARs and systems integrators.”
The 21-Inch IntelliTouch Ultra Flat-Panel Touchscreen
The 21-inch IntelliTouch Ultra touchscreen withstands a variety of elements that can affect accurate operations in public use and control room applications. Scratches inflicted by touching through dirt and grit, or with objects such as rings, keys, and pens typically do not affect the touchscreen’s operation.
Electromagnetic fields from nearby power supplies, temperature and humidity fluctuations, and even the user’s body capacitance can also affect touchscreens, sometimes causing “drift”—an inaccurate response to a touch. The IntelliTouch Ultra technology is impervious to these elements, resulting in drift-free operation—what you touch is what you get.
The IntelliTouch flat-panel touchscreen also resists contaminants, such as grease, dirt, bits of food and gum, that can cause problems with touch applications in a public environment. Software algorithms and an innovative chip set controller create an accurate digital map of the touch surface. The touchscreen automatically identifies and maps around the contaminants, responding to the next touch in fewer than 10 milliseconds. The touchscreen can also be sealed to protect against dust and splashed liquids.
The IntelliTouch Ultra flat-panel touchscreen, constructed of solid, anti-glare glass with no coatings, also delivers sharp, clear images. The touchscreen transmits 90 percent light and offers the highest touch resolution in the industry, at 4096 x 4096 touchpoints.
Mouse Emulation Option
The IntelliTouch Ultra touchscreen for Fujitsu’s monitor can be used with MonitorMouse®, Elo’ mouse emulation software that instantly brings touch to mouse-based applications. MonitorMouse is compatible with most operating systems, including DOS, Windows (3.X, 95 and NT), OS/2 Warp, and Macintosh.
Availability And Pricing
The 21-inch IntelliTouch Ultra flat-panel touchscreen for the Fujitsu color monitor is currently available. Pricing begins at $1,200 for the touchscreen and the IntelliTouch Ultra RS-232 controller.
Elo plans to adapt the IntelliTouch Ultra touchscreen to other large, flat color monitors as they become available. Elo TouchSystems also offers touchscreens to accommodate CRT monitors that measure up to 27 inches diagonally.
